When choosing educational furniture for a small school or child’s room obviously the criteria used for finding adult office furniture is invalid. Corners for children’s furniture must be round and soft. Legs must be made of a sturdy yet softer material. Educational furniture should be designed expressly for a child’s size and physical limitations. Desks must be considerably lower usually set at a height of only 24 inches as opposed to the standard 30 inch desktop for adults. Table and desk tops must be made of materials impervious to paint, markers and the occasional attempt at carving with a pen tip.
Simple items such as chairs should be molded out of plastic it possible and of course are scaled down to child sizes. Workstations in a small child’s study environment should be capable of rolling and being placed out of harm’s way. Another important feature that should be included in any educational furniture is the use of color. Needless to say children’s furniture should be created in reds, blues and yellows not walnut and mahogany.
