Most people think that the only reason there is to purchase heavy duty office chairs is so as to accommodate workers and users of greater weight. While this is a good reason to purchase an office chair that has extra cushioning, a wider base and heavy strain height adjustment, it is by no means the most important one. Usually when businesses purchase heavy duty office chairs it is because that chair is in use by more than one person during the course of a 24 hour shift.
The average standard office chair is designed to be used only 8 hours of everyday. Once that workstation’s time has been expanded to include three shifts, all of the office furniture used is obviously getting triple the workout. This is not to say that using a chair for a longer period time denies the item an opportunity to rest. The situation is merely that if a conventional chair is designed to last five years at an 8 hour per day basis, that same chair will wear out in just 20 months. The heavy duty chair that has been rated for 24 hour service might cost 20 or 30% more but will in the long run last three times as long.
