Using the web to make furnishing your office easier

May 16th, 2010

Whether you need a single office desk or 100 office desks you’ll discover that you can save a great deal of money by buying those items on the Internet. Honest and dependable retailers are available online that can sell you the exact same items you might purchase in a retail office supply store at a fraction of the cost. Plus your online purchase will include free delivery to anywhere in the mainland United Kingdom.

Online retailers ship direct from the UK factory to your address so you save on intermediate shipping and storage. This is how they are able to offer such great bargains without a diminishment of quality. The same online office furniture stores also sell office chairs, office screens and everyday items such as metal filing cabinets. Another great feature of shopping for office furniture online is that the range is almost unlimited. Many online office desk sellers specialize in certain types of furniture such as computer desks or home office desks.

Updated looks in office workstations

May 16th, 2010

If you recently have gone shopping for office desks you may have noticed that the traditional heavy walnut rectangular design is far less popular than it once was. The majority of office desks being purchased today are used with a computer and as such tend to follow a high technology design and style. Look for your office desk to be topped with a durable plastic of some kind. Or it may be built using tubular steel and glass.

Perhaps a most striking change in office desks that has taken place over the last 20 years is the rounding of corners. Even though we spend more hours seated behind a computer screen for some reason workers tend to rise from their station and zip around a bit more. This is usually to exchange information with other workers. Office desk manufacturers notice this trend and adjust the designs so that people were not constantly running into sharp corners.

Automotive ergonomic luxuries move into the office

May 16th, 2010

Wouldn’t it be great if your office chair was as comfortable as the seat in your luxury car? You know, perhaps have a little knob or lever to adjust so as to put support on your lower back. And maybe you could adjust the seat height to better see your work. We may as well give your office chair a nice adjustable headrest as well.

All of these features found as standard equipment in a car seat are part of what is called ergonomic design. That is to say design features that better support the body thus reducing fatigue. High quality ergonomic designed office chairs are readily available for delivery in the United Kingdom simply by shopping online. You may not find these more comfortable office chairs in a High Street shoppe, but you can buy them with free delivery to anywhere in the mainland UK by shopping on the Internet.

Outdated office chairs should be avoided for comfort

May 16th, 2010

A few years ago I was walking on the street outside of my home and to noticed a fairly nice fabric office chair placed in the trash. It had been discarded because of the broken wooden armrest. Ever the clever repair and by glued the armrest together and brought the chair into my office. I used this chair for several months until suddenly I noticed that I was feeling a great deal of chest pain after work each day. Examining the office chair and my placement on it I discovered that I had been pushing myself up and down on the chair to maintain proper vision of my computer monitor.

This repetitive action resulted in excess muscle strain on both my arms shoulders and chest. Within weeks after replacing the found chair with a modern ergonomic office chair the pain was gone and I was back to normal. Ergonomic office chairs allow for adjustable lumbar support, seat height adjustment and adjustment or removal of armrests. These differences mean that your body is properly supported when seated.

Desk style reflects the design of writing tools

May 16th, 2010

A few years ago I restored a desk from the 1800s commonly referred to as a Charles Dickens desk. It was a beautiful piece of furniture and somewhat functional for written correspondence. However for use as a computer desk it would have been completely worthless. To begin with the entire desktop was set at a slant so as to better accommodate writing by hand.

Remember this desk was built long before even the invention of the typewriter. On each side of the slanted writing surface sat a superstructure consisting of tiny drawers. These would have been of no value as you no longer write on paper and seldom store such small items as envelopes. Computer desks like the Dickens desk are designed for the time they live in. Today we need a clean flat surface, a slide out keyboard shelf and someplace to put our PC’s power tower and laptop computers need even less.

The slimmer design of modern computer desks

May 16th, 2010

Computer desks have evolved very nicely as computers have changed. The first computer desks had huge superstructures attached to them so as to accommodate bulky printers and hold cathode ray monitors. Because of these monitors computer desks had to be very deep. It was not uncommon just 10 years ago for an office desk built to hold a computer to have a 4 foot depth.

Obviously this used and wasted a great deal of space. New flat screen LCD monitors are far larger in size. They are also much thinner. This allows the monitor to be placed further back in position on the desk and yet still be seen. The computer desk we purchase today is narrower and returns to the conventional office desk appearance. A major change is that desks today have rounded edges. We tend to get up more from our work areas and need to not catch a leg on a pointy corner.

Selecting office furniture online that meets your document filing standards

May 15th, 2010

When purchasing a metal or wooden filing cabinet in the United Kingdom it is important to remember that sizes used for correspondence in other countries such as America may not be suitable for UK usage. What may seem to be a bargain filing cabinet may not accommodate A4 and A3 letters. This situation is especially true when making an office furniture purchase online.

Sometimes we do not realize that the Internet shop we are visiting is not located in the United Kingdom. In fact businesses operating overseas very often attempt to hide this information. Generally speaking you should always follow up on an order for any large purchase online with a phone call. And that phone call should yield a UK voice on the other end. Filing cabinets are built to the size specifications of the records they will be storing. Standard sizes for paper in the United Kingdom differ greatly from those in other nations.

The origin of modern metal filing cabinets

May 15th, 2010

Ever notice those little steel boxes used to hold 3” by 5” index cards? Well, they used to be steel. Nowadays they are probably all made of plastic. But immediately following World War II there was a shortage of sheet metal and other materials. The Home-O-Nize company was set up to make steel kitchen cabinets. But there wasn’t enough steel available. So instead they started creating tiny steel boxes perfect for holding index cards.

Eventually larger amounts of steel were available and the company began to make larger boxes. These boxes took the form of the vertical filing cabinets which for decades had been constructed of wood. The company revolutionized office filing and the metal filing cabinet was born. HON filing cabinets were manufactured and copied throughout the world. The original designs are still used today. And HON is still the largest manufacturer in the world of metal filing cabinets. We wonder if they still make the little boxes for index cards?

Refreshing your office’s style over the internet

May 15th, 2010

Is your office furniture looking chipped and worn down? You can afford to replace beat up home or work office furniture at bargain prices simply by shopping on the Internet. Few people are aware that Internet stores now sell even the largest items. In fact, businesses have sprung up all across the United Kingdom specifically to accommodate fast delivery to anywhere on the mainland UK of items purchased online.

Office furniture is an excellent example. You can expect to pay almost twice as much for the contemporary office work station or computer desk that is purchased in a department store or from an office supply warehouse. Plus there is no way that any single store or chain of stores for that matter can ever compete to offer the immense range of office furniture found on the Internet. Online you discover both low priced office furniture shops as well as factory to you direct pricing.

Looking through the vast amount of office furnishings on the internet

May 15th, 2010

The greatest advantage to shopping online for office furniture is that the assortment is virtually unlimited. Most retail shops are hindered by the fact that there is only so much available showroom and display. Floor space costs money to rent and office furniture companies are loathe to display a range of styles that may or may not sell. An online office furniture store usually makes arrangements for manufacturers to directly ship your items from the factory to your home.

This results in great savings as no one, and importantly you the end user, ends up paying for storage, shipping and display space. This is especially helpful when you are looking for large items that retail shops simply cannot afford to carry. For example, how likely is it for you to see a large ornate bureau de platte in your local office supply store. Usually all these and discount department stores can be is an assortment of pressed wood office furniture.

The need for computer design integration in today’s office suites

December 3rd, 2009

30 years ago no one would have considered designing office furniture specifically with an electronic device in mind. In fact, the only compensation made for office equipment was the traditional extension on a rectangular office desk that was lowered so as to accommodate the famous IBM selectric. And it should be noted that an executive desk could never have such an extension, as it denoted the lower status given only to secretaries.

Today’s modern executive expects to have at least one but usually two computer monitors on his or her desktop. These are usually accompanied by at least one small printer and a variety of wireless devices. Modern computer furniture needs to allow for all of these devices and their adjunct cables. Other interesting features now needed in office furniture that allow for our use of computers are rounded corners and the lack of file drawers. Today, a file is a little icon that resides on our computer desktop. Indeed office furniture has changed to the point that we now have a separate category of the same that is simply labeled computer furniture.

Why everyone needs a properly designed computer chair

December 3rd, 2009

How important is the comfort of your computer chair? Consider that on an average day you may spend more time in that chair than you do sleeping in the comfort of your bed. For this reason every aspect of your office chair needs to be examined. Important features such as a hydraulic cushion on seating can reduce operator wear and tear drastically. Very few people realize that today’s computer chair is built with an ergonomic design.

With the majority of the workforce aged between 25 and 55 years, it is no wonder that executive chairs being built today include such features as lumbar support and adjustable armrests. Adjustable armrests are especially important because we tend to use these to brace ourselves and can actually damage upper body muscles and cartilage during the process of lifting ourselves in our chairs time and again during the day. Chair height and angle for the chair’s back determine our line of sight for computer monitors and length of reach for computer keyboards.

Building an office suite affordably using the internet

December 3rd, 2009

There is no sense in trying to pretend, when we are shopping for furniture for our office on the Internet, that we are looking to spend more money than we absolutely have to. While we are always keeping an eye out for quality, the overriding factor in our decision-making process is the desire to find cheap office furniture that will get the job done nicely. Perhaps this is what makes buying furniture for the office online such a great process.

To begin with, online showrooms have a far lower overhead than that of conventional retail shops. There are no salesmen to pay, no shop rental, and no extra cost for transport and warehousing. In fact, most of the better online office furniture stores have made arrangements to have your items shipped direct to your home at no cost to you from the original manufacturer. With no distribution middlemen and no warehousing costs, how could cheap office furniture purchased online not be available at a lower price?

Setting up an office cheaply while maintaining professional quality

December 3rd, 2009

It’s amazing how in different parts of the world words take on very different meanings. For example, if you were to look for cheap home office furniture in the United States using exactly those words you would be directed to furniture of decidedly lower quality. However, using that same search in the United Kingdom you will be directed to moderate to high quality office furniture at very affordable pricing. In Britain, cheap implies a low price without describing poor quality. As with any purchase made on the Internet, it is up to you to ascertain the level of quality of the product to choose.

In the case of office furniture this is easily done by comparing product features such as desktop thickness or weight standards for office chairs. Searching through the Internet using the terms cheap home office furniture may very well yield you some fabulous bargains on items such as glass top home computer desks and mesh office chairs. In general searching for home office furniture on the Internet is a great idea, for it allows you to easily match the decor of the home office suite with that of the rest of your home.

An image of efficiency represents modern boardroom layout

December 3rd, 2009

Boardroom furniture no longer has to be the standard collection of boring high backed black leather chairs placed around a 1 mile long rectangular walnut table. Indeed, the very function of today’s conference room furniture has changed drastically dictating an equal change in conference room furniture design. Information in the form of PowerPoint presentations and hard copy exchanges constantly takes place during most business meetings.

Teleconferencing is also extremely prevalent today. This leaves a situation where chairs and tables used for these meetings must be compatible with a complete range of movement. Higher level management must be able to easily pass around information and everyone must have a view of conferencing monitors. The current trend is towards much more narrow boardroom tables combined with simple WorkStation operator chairs that allow more people and easily accommodate a smaller space. This system also further accommodates impromptu presentations by staff and board members.

Getting large reception desks shipped direct to you is easy

November 24th, 2009

Choosing reception desks doesn’t have to mean getting in your auto and driving all over within a 100 mile radius to every supplier until you have been able to see enough different models. A far simpler approach is to shop for office furniture including large sized desks on the Internet. For the most part, in most offices, reception desks are one of the larger items. And while we are accustomed to the idea that these things are far too expensive to be shipped, consider that marketing through the Internet has evolved to include massive networks built up specifically for this kind of shipping.

Also consider that packaging for these items has been designed to facilitate this transport without any risk of damage. Now factor into this equation the most important piece of information of them all. That being price. On average, office furniture such as desks and quality leather office chairs sells for 40% less than when purchased through Internet vendors. The combined savings of less intermediary shipping and removal of distributor profit and warehousing has resulted in a system for delivery of these items that can best be described as direct seller.

Simple office tables can perform multiple duties

November 24th, 2009

All of a sudden, office tables are seeing more and more use as replacement for desks and boardroom conference furniture, as more meetings take place requiring close quartered sharing of visual and verbal ideas. It is completely impractical to sit at one end of a 20 foot long boardroom table and toss a laptop computer to a client or manager seated at the other end. For this reason, quality office tables that pivot like a Lazy Susan and are expandable as if being used for a holiday supper have leapt in popularity.

The common conception of office tables being round cornered collapsible 3 foot by 6 foot utilitarian items has been replaced with a view of quality round pedestal tables that allow sharing of printed information and computer monitor viewing. Indeed a huge increase in teleconferencing around the globe also requires that tables suitable for web cams be placed into use. In many situations management offices are being built around such tables so as to eliminate the need for the traditional executive desk and create an environment that supports what amounts to constant meetings and assignments.

Lower prices for office furniture are usually found online

November 24th, 2009

Office furniture for sale on the Internet in general costs less than half the price of equal items sold through office supply and furniture stores. Large chain stores simply cannot afford to sell items that require warehousing and display at anything near to the price available through an online office furniture merchant. You can take advantage of this direct to buyer opportunity simply by typing in a few key phrases relative to the items you are searching for. A quick search for black leather office chair will return thousands of great styles, sizes and colors that are all priced competitively. Similarly, entering a search for a specialty piece of office furniture such as a marble top executive desk will yield an equally fast and specific result.

Why waste time on the phone questioning an endless parade of customer representatives who usually have no idea what their companies sell. See for yourself all of the best office furniture for sale with decent speed without ever leaving your office. Anyone who’s ever been promised by a salesperson on the phone that exactly the item you’re looking for is available only to arrive at the store and discover you have been lured in so as to attempt to sell you a different product will appreciate if buying office supplies and furniture on the Internet.

Office shelving can blend with the style of your workspace

November 24th, 2009

Your office shelving doesn’t have to look like you work in the back of a warehouse. Attractive and functional shelving is available at various Internet websites at prices affordable for any business. As with all office furniture, pricing when purchased online is greatly reduced. One can routinely expect to save almost 40% against the cost of the same items purchased in a retail store. Another great advantage is that items such as shelving are available at a far greater assortment when purchased online.

Obviously a concern of anyone purchasing a high ticket item such as an executive office desk or black leather office chairs on the Internet is the shipping of said item. Depending on your location, this can be a major cost factor. In the United Kingdom, most office supply and furniture companies engage the services of professional delivery organizations that guarantee shipping completion within 48 hours. The same online merchants also build the cost of shipping into the items so that one is never surprised with an additional expense. Whether you are trying to find a great deal of office shelving for an industrial giant or a simple bookcase for your home office, you will recognize almost immediately that the best prices and quality for such will always be found online.

Changes in the way office furniture suppliers do business

November 24th, 2009

The modern office furniture supplier no longer needs a chain of showrooms going around the United Kingdom so as to reach his or her customer base. In order to be an efficient and honest purveyor of quality office furniture, all one really needs is a desktop computer and established business relationships with office furniture manufacturers and reliable United Kingdom delivery agencies. Of course, a fundamental knowledge of the business at hand may be equally essential. One needs to know that which they sell.

The majority of United Kingdom businesses set up to be an office furniture supplier have managed to assemble exactly this combination. Most of these firms were created by entrepreneurial types who garnered vast product knowledge in their field, in this case specifically that of office furniture and seizing the opportunity to create a superior business model, chose the best products available to them from proven manufacturers and placed pictures and descriptions of all these items on websites. Because these online companies have an extremely low overhead, facilitated by lack of need for the aforementioned display showrooms and warehousing, they are able to simply coordinate sales of quality items at great prices for the purchaser and still manage to make a fair and honest profit.

Bringing utility and a grand statement of success together in the office

November 23rd, 2009

In choosing executive furniture, buyers must constantly attempt to balance impressive stature with price. There’s a certain value to sitting behind a huge mahogany edifice that instantly implies wealth and success. But to what degree is one willing to pay for that facade. Even if one is not feigning success and is truly successful, there are always degrees of balance between cost and utility.

Years ago, when I was in the antique business, I discovered there was an almost endless demand for executive furniture primarily large hardwood desks. These were an easy sale in the 2000 to 4000 pound range. Burled walnut and flamed mahogany are the preferred to executive finishes. Female executives tend to prefer a more genteel power look. This accomplished by using huge French style bureau de plattes. The inset marble and brass ormolu can be extremely impressive. Still, as stated earlier, the trick is to balance price with effect. In fact, when I had a particularly nice piece, I could always expect it to sell within a couple of weeks for a minimum 3000 pounds. Admittedly, this was prior to the current economic situation. Then again for some the large fancy office desk is a prerequisite symbol of status.

Traveling the UK online to create an amazing office

November 23rd, 2009

When comparing online office furniture UK residents seem to have a distinct advantage over buyers anywhere else in the world. Consider that in the United States, if one wishes to purchase office furniture through the Internet, the sheer geographic size of the nation creates a situation where one might locate exactly the piece they want, only to discover that it only exists in a warehouse 3000 miles away from their home. Thus the item is essentially unattainable, as the price of delivery for this is five times that of the purchase.

Perhaps this is why United Kingdom office furniture sellers are able to not only offer the highest quality in merchandise, but generally guarantee free delivery within 48 hours for any item, as long as it is delivered to a location of the mainland UK. It should also be noted that the better quality online stores offer full telephone order support. This allows those with limited computer skills to have the opportunity of purchasing the low cost, high quality office furniture UK customers require, without having to worry about whether or not they have successfully completed creation of the order online.

Building a Workstation that truly works without looking tacky

November 23rd, 2009

If you are considering purchasing new office furniture desk construction and design are going to be the two most important factors. While the idea of the huge rectangular executive office desk made from a high quality hardwood is appealing from an image and status standpoint. It’s practical use when setting up an office environment that requires a desktop computer on one hand and a laptop computer on an extension is laughable. By the same token, the firmly square corner design of that executive edifice is probably 50 years into obsolescence. Today’s executive is not seated at a pre designed barrier. He or she is constantly rising from their seat to meet people and share ideas at an office miniature meeting table. When setting up office furniture desk design must accommodate this constant flow of people and ideas. Today’s executive has more use of a draftsman’s table than of a 72″ long 30″ inch high huge empty platform.

A more effective WorkStation is probably oval shaped with a round ended extension and will come pre-slotted for computer cables and power. Another great way to check on the quality of an executive or operator office desk is to make sure that the desktop thickness is at least 1 inch. Also try to find exactly what type of material the desktop is made from. That which we refer to as simply particleboard comes in many different grades with the better the more akin to hard slate than crumbling sawdust.

Seeking a combination of office efficiency and style projection

November 23rd, 2009

If you are shopping for a new office desk furniture styles can be so varied that you may have difficulty finding exactly the pieces that will mesh with both your work lifestyle and your office image. Obviously, if you are a high tech promotional type, you don’t really want to fill your office with bulky huge rectangular wooden desks as one would expect to see in the executive suite of major law firm. You will be thinking in terms of steel and glass construction or perhaps round cornered molded desk designs.

When we recently decided to redo all of the desks in our Internet Marketing office, we chose 30 inch by 60 inch Formica topped desks with pedestal legs on each end. While shopping, we quickly determined that we had no need for filing cabinets. Our files all exist on computers. What we did need however were workstations that had been pre fitted for cables and power sources. We also needed a desktop surface that was large enough to allow for small personal printers and easy access to computer USB ports. Our high tech firm needed and purchased office desks that allowed us to comfortably work for long hours at our stations.

Filling out your office with a versatile open cabinet

November 23rd, 2009

One of the most popular pieces of furniture for the office this year is office cabinets. Companies such as Nexera and Hanover have added a complete range of these furniture types to their inventories. These are designed in sizes to allow for use as both a makeshift wardrobes or, in the case of low profile cabinetry, printer stands. It seems there is a current trend two meld high tech devices with more familiar comfortable wooden accoutrements. Hence our executive suite desk may be done in a cherry finish, but it is still filled with elements to support computer monitors, keyboards and the cables that connect them.

With this comfort zone creation in mind, almost all of United Kingdom’s largest office furniture manufacturers have now only included in their stocks office cabinets designed to allow for high tech devices. They have even placed particular emphasis on these cabinets building them in a huge choice of materials. It would appear that in the future all office furniture design will be chained to the rock of information technology. We simply will no longer have any space or use for ornamental executive office furniture whose sole purpose is to hold a lamp or knick knack.

Comparing used office seating to new

November 23rd, 2009

I recently went into a huge used office furniture warehouse near to my home. While I had found exceptional bargains there for computer operator desks, I was uncertain as to whether office chairs and other pieces of office equipment I needed could be found at the right price with little wear. I strolled among hundreds of conference room chairs, phone operator chairs and leather executive office chairs. None of them were worth a darn. The fact that they were too worn and missing parts did not surprise me.

What did surprise me is that the prices this used office furniture company were asking for any of their office seating was actually equal to or greater than the price of the same chairs brand new. I was actually able to find better quality in new condition on display at the local Wal-Mart. This is not to say that I want to go to a discount department store to buy chairs for our company. I simply felt that I should have been able to purchase these chairs in volume, either new or used, at a better price. Eventually I did find a way to buy brand new office chairs for every department of our company at a terrific bargain. I did this by purchasing our office chairs online at a website specifically dedicated to sales of office seating.

Assembling an office workstation in pieces to suit your needs

November 22nd, 2009

Modular office furniture has got to be one of the greatest innovations in the office furniture arena to come along in the last 40 years. With most office furniture manufacturers creating complete suites of items, each in a matching design and finish, even the most inexperienced of us office designers can mix, match and choose exactly the office environment we feel we will most enjoy. Those who are in constant one on one or one on two meetings will include in their selections the prerequisite small round meeting table.

For lawyers who seem to insist upon stacking behind themselves volume after volume of legal statute, bookcases are always in order. Those who generate and study reports need a high volume printer and the accompanying printer stand. Most makers of modular office furniture offer at least eight different modules in each finish and style. This allows for creation of a very impressive executive office suite that gives the impression of custom design at only the cost of mass produced décor. Many of these specialty furniture makers even include as an option a matching modular bar for office entertaining.

Remodeling your outdated office environment

November 22nd, 2009

If your office is filled with 1950s and 60s rubber topped steel desks that look as if they were purchased at a government surplus sale, it is time for you to spend a little and switch over to modern office furniture. Yes, you might be thinking that these desks are perfectly suitable and will last for another hundred years. That is probably true. Most steel case office furniture is virtually indestructible. But those obsolete desks might be costing you far more money than you realize. Today’s work environment centers around one item and one item alone. That most important piece of equipment is the computer.

Office furniture created prior to the mid 1980s gave no thought and consideration to placement of PCs. Still, you might be thinking that you have been able to place two computer’s onto your old desks with no problem at all. But what you are unaware of is that these desks do not allow for proper ergonomic line of sight to computer monitors. In addition, modern office furniture is built to ensure keyboards are kept at the proper reach and distance. The point to all of this is that newer desk and chair designs tremendously reduce operator fatigue. This means that your workers stay at their station longer and produce more work while they are there.

The features to look for in fine office chairs made of leather

November 22nd, 2009

When purchasing a leather office chair several of the factors to consider are blatantly obvious. Other considerations are not so easily noticed. The first choice to make is as to color. Businesses generally regarded as conservatives such as the legal profession and banking usually opt for a brown or cordovan, as it to offers the impression of security. A slightly jazzier look is cheap and simple black leather, as this color choice remains preferred of all possibilities. Ladies offices and offices for those attempting to appear a bit more stylish are usually done in cream leather. The next consideration in choosing a leather office chair is the specific style of the chair. If your office also includes a leather couch, be sure to match the styles so that traditional is not set to clash with modern.

Fortunately all of the popular styles in leather office chairs are now built allowing for ergonomic design. This means that your staid and stodgy black leather executive chair can secretly be giving you lumbar support and proper lift from the armrests. Another point to consider is that most executive office chairs, especially those created with leather, are built to a higher level of sturdiness than fabric chairs. You may not have to purchase a heavy duty office chair if the weight and strength ratings on the high quality leather chair are equal.

Picking out the best desk for your home office

November 22nd, 2009

If there is any one type of item that presents a problem when trying to choose home office furniture desks would be the one. The base problem is focused on the fact that most office furniture is built to be placed into wide open rooms with no other purpose than to accommodate a desk, executive office chair, client chairs and an assortment of other helpful office related furniture pieces. These might include credenzas, bookcases and perhaps a printer stand. Now imagine trying to get all of these things into one tiny corner of your home that has been converted into your executive office. That doesn’t sound possible does it?

Of course not and this is why desks have been especially designed for the home office. Most of these fit nicely into a corner and are tiered with a superstructure so as to allow vertical placement of papers and perhaps even a small computer printer. The home office desk will always include a slide out shelf for placement of a computer keyboard. And these desks are always pre-drilled for computer cables and are never designed to be too deep as to not allow placement on sections of wall remaining after the joint doors are opened. Indeed, if one were to attempt to use a conventional size and configuration office desk in their home, they would probably find their self forced to remove from the home the dining room table.
